Ferndale, located just North of Bellingham in Whatcom County, is a quiet community that offers sweeping views of Mount Baker and the San Juan Islands. The charming back roads of Ferndale lead out to local dairy and berry farms which can often be found between tall rows of corn and other crops.

The city of Ferndale is about 6.7 square miles in size with a population of about 13,000. Geographically, Ferndale sits at about 36 ft. above sea level. Downtown Ferndale is located near the Nooksack River which outlets into the north side of Bellingham Bay at the Lummi Indian Reservation, approximately 3 miles west of Bellingham.

The Ferndale Heritage Society maintains the historical Pioneer Park which offers visitors a look at what living in Whatcom county was like in the early 1900s. Hovander Homestead Park preserves the rich history of pioneer farming and offers recreational opportunities for all ages in every season, encompassing nearly 350 acres, including over a mile of river frontage.
