Island County is truly a county comprised entirely of an island chain that sits on the northern west coast of Washington State. The county is filled with gorgeous coastal views and a wide range of activities for outdoor and marine lovers alike.
Island County is about 517 square miles in size with a population of about 80,000. Geographically, Island County’s two largest islands are Whidbey Island and Camano Island, with seven smaller surrounding islands included. The Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) is located near Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. Construction of Ault Field, the main location of the base, started in March of 1942. Over 50 tenant commands are at NAS Whidbey Island to provide training, medical and dental, and other support services. The base continues its role as a center of activity for Naval Air Reserve operations and training in the region.
