Broker at Sterling Real Estate Group
I did not get into real estate to “chase commissions.” My decision to become a professional broker was driven by two primary reasons:
Two years before moving to Whatcom County, we purchased our retirement property on Lake Whatcom. It’s a bright, sunny, waterfront lot with a stunning view of the lake—an absolute blessing. However, we were naive, especially about easement rights.
At the time, we were overseas, making it difficult to do our own research. We trusted our real estate agent and the listing broker to handle the due diligence, but unfortunately, they did not. The lot we purchased didn’t have a recorded access easement.
This oversight led to nine years of frustration and two lawsuits over the access easement. The experience cost us tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours that could have been spent with our children. I became a real estate professional to protect others from these kinds of avoidable situations by prioritizing diligence, transparency, and client care.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Washington, where I met my husband, David, who was attending UW on a Navy ROTC scholarship. After earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering, David was commissioned as a Naval Officer and later completed flight training.
Over David’s 22 years of Navy service, we moved frequently, started a family, and spent seven years overseas in Japan. During that time, I earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management, worked as an Industrial Engineer, and taught conversational English in Japan. The Navy gave our family incredible experiences and taught us resilience, adaptability, and the value of community.
I’m thrilled to begin this new chapter in real estate, especially as part of Sterling Real Estate Group. I had several brokerage options, but Sterling stands out for its loyalty, hard work, and unimpeachable integrity. These values align perfectly with my own.
I look forward to the opportunity to serve as your real estate professional and to make your buying or selling experience as seamless and rewarding as possible.
